February 22 - Jonathan Demme


Happy Birthday, Jonathan Demme! Born today in 1944 as Robert Jonathan Demme, this American screenwriter, film producer and film director best known for directing the 1991 American psychological horror drama/mystery film 'The Silence of the Lambs'. 
  
The film was the third in cinematic history to win all five major Oscars. The first was talian-American film director, producer and write Frank Capra's 1934 pre-Code American black and white romantic comedy road film 'It Happened One Night'. 

The second was Czech-American film director, screenwriter, actor, and professor MilošForman's 1975 American drama/comedy-drama film 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'. 
  
Demme received the Oscar for Best Director at the 64th Academy Awards in late March 1992. The following year, Demme co-produced and directed the second film of which he is best known: the 1993 American legal drama/trial drama film 'Philadelphia'. 
  
Demme had been active from 1968–2017.
