May 11 - National Eat What You Want Day

Happy National Eat What You Want Day! Observed annually on May 11, today sets diets aside for a day of indulgence.

It’s about having one day a year of eating with no regrets. Whether you love donuts or fast food, today is your day to gratify without feeling guilty.

Chili cheese dogs, greasy hamburgers, french fries, potato chips, cake, cookies, candy, and ice cream are just a few of the things you can enjoy today without remorse.

Decadent food is definitely on the menu today. The saying, “Everything in moderation” applies to this holiday quite aptly. Though, we’re not quite sure they meant EVERYTHING at the same time.

However, a sample of this and a sample of that sure has a way satisfying a sweet tooth or a greasy yearning. Need a salt fix? This holiday offers it.

How about a crunch craving? Yep, we’re sure you can find what you’re looking for. Whether it’s a rich, fried or fast, frozen, baked, or spicy eat what you want.

Some of us have that one irresistible food that we avoid at all costs because we know if it’s in the house we’ll eat it all. It’s our weakness, our kryptonite. This holiday suggests that we bend to our kryptonite just this one time each year.

HOW TO OBSERVE

What’s your kryptonite? Will you be celebrating with a bite of your favorite dessert or snackfood? Celebrate this fantastic food day by eating your favorite foods.

Call a friend and go out for some fun and indulgence. Use #EatWhatYouWantDay when sharing on social media.

HISTORY

Created by American film, television and voice actor Thomas Roy and his wife Ruth of wellcat.com, National Eat What You Want Day is just a way to enjoy life with friends and family.

Many nutritionists even agree that “taking a short break” from your diet regimen is actually good for you.

What food(s) do you like in which will observe eating what you want today?

May 11 - National Twilight Zone Day

"You are about to enter another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land of imagination. Next stop, the Twilight Zone!"

Doo-doo-doo-doo! Doo-doo-doo-doo!

Always observed on May 11, National Twilight Zone Day features mysterious twists and turns highlighted with eerie background music and unexplainable occurrences.

The American black and white anthology television series The Twilight Zone (marketed as Twilight Zone for its final two seasons) premiered on CBS on October 1, 1959.

The episodes were wildly popular, stretched the imagination, and captivated viewers. The show was created, written and narrated by American screenwriter, playwright, television producer and narrator Rod Serling.

Later on, he created the show’s spin-off, this being NBC's American anthology television series Night Gallery (1970–1973).

Each episode of The Twilight Zone presented unique stories that led the viewer on a journey into an unknown situation. The characters often revealed their backstories through intense exchanges.

Settings ranged from the wild west to penthouse suites. And yet each story took place in the fifth dimension, in The Twilight Zone.

According to the June 22, 1997 list for TV Guide's 100 Greatest Episodes of All-Time, To Serve Man (S03E24) ranked in at #11. Also, It's a Good Life (S03E08) ranked in at #31.

On June 17, 2009, the revised list of TV Guide's 100 Greatest Episodes of All-Time list included only one episode from The Twilight Zone on their list. This was Time Enough At Last (S01E08). It ranked in at #11.

HOW TO OBSERVE

Celebrate the day by watching episodes or hosting a party.

  • • Make fifth dimension pinwheels

  • • Offer fortune cookies
