May 3 - National Lumpy Rug Day

Happy National Lumpy Rug Day! On May 3 each year, today takes two approaches in celebrating.

Some people view the day as a day to appreciate a good, clean rug and incorporate that into spring cleaning.

Along with this view, is the idea to enjoy the old lumpy rugs and the comfort they have brought to your home.

The other view regarding the day is the way we sometimes sweep unwelcome facts and issues under the rug.

We often take bad news we want to ignore and tuck it away so we can avoid it. That’s how we sweep them under the rug. Though, it rarely does us any good.

However, there are ways to approach a lumpy rug to make it smooth again. Try these tricks:

  • • Depending on the material, heat helps to soften the threads. You can use steam or iron on natural fibers to help straighten out your unruly rug.
  • • Another heat approach is to lay your rug face down in the sun. Let the warmth smooth your rug flat again.
  • • Put your rug in reverse. If the lumps and bumps are from storing the rug rolled up, rolly it in the opposite direction.

No matter which way you choose to celebrate, take action on the day.

HOW TO OBSERVE

It is the perfect time to start with your spring cleaning.  Throw out the old lumpy rugs and bring in some new fresh ones.  It is also a good day to address ignored issues.

May 3 - National Lemonade Day

Happy National Lemonade Day on the first Sunday in May encourages the entrepreneurial spirit in young people all across the country.

Not only is the celebration a time to enjoy a refreshing glass of lemonade, but more importantly, it is a day to give youth an opportunity to experience the taste of success.

Through LemonadeDay.org, millions of kids around the nation learn what it takes to run a business in a fun and constructive way.

The days leading up to Lemonade Day are full of preparation by small but budding entrepreneurs. They attend workshops, check their stock, and scout out their locations.

On National Lemonade Day, they will be ready to set up shop and sell the freshest, coolest lemonade their side of the block!

Hopefully they'll have a permit.

HOW TO OBSERVE

What better way for kids to learn about running a small business than by starting one? For ages, children have set up small stands on the sidewalk.

But now, we need to take them seriously. Cash in hand, consumers, come to the counter, and get your lemonade by the glassful.
Businesses face challenges as well.

If they’re given lemons, well they make a different sort of lemonade.

Check out the National Day Calendar® for the National Mom and Pop Business OwnersDay activity to help inspire your budding entrepreneurs. You can do so by visiting the website below:

HISTORY

In 2007, Michael Holthouse founded National Lemonade Day in his hometown of Houston, Texas to allow youth to sample running small businesses – like a lemonade stand.

Today, he and LemonadeDay.org are partnered with Google to continue to bring the entrepreneurial spirit to the youth of America.

When life gives you lemons...you know...

May 3 - National Paranormal Day

Happy National Paranormal Day! Each year on May 3,today people who believe in paranormal activities are encouraged to get together and share their experiences with each other.

The term "paranormal" is used to describe occurrences that can’t be explained by ordinary scientific measures. They are outside the norm.

Many words leap to mind when speaking of the paranormal. Ghosts, hauntings, spirit, or poltergeist name a few.

However, an extraterrestrial and clairvoyance also fall into the category, too. Have you ever felt a sense of déjà vu?

Some believe that the feeling is related to the paranormal. Are strange orbs in the night an apparition or simply a moth catching the light?

Nearly every city in the country has a house or location that holds a mystical presence. Whether the history associated with the location or personal experiences, certain places radiate the paranormal.

Others need a time of day or year for their mystery to unfold. Even still, it might depend on who spins the tale. A good storyteller can make just about anyone’s spine tingle.

Even those who don’t believe in the paranormal can participate in the day. There are a wide variety of movies, documentaries, science-fiction books, and television shows specializing in this genre.

HOW TO OBSERVE

Explore the paranormal – if you dare. What’s your favorite ghost story? Share your experiences using #NationalParanormalDay to post on social media.
