March 25 - National Little Red Wagon Day

Happy National Little Red Wagon Day! On the last Wednesday in March, today celebrates the memories in the making and the ones already made.

One iconic toy wields the power of imagination for adults and children alike as it brings us together to explore, laugh and play.

For nearly a century, American toy company Radio Flyer® has been bringing smiles to kids of all ages and creating warm memories that last a lifetime. As a brand, Radio Flyer® has always supported unstructured outdoor play and its positive impact on children.

With their 100th anniversary on the horizon, Radio Flyer® would like to establish a day that not only celebrates kids’ imaginations but the vehicles that help them explore it – their wagons.

This iconic toy is one of the most enduring toys of all time. For generations, children have led little red wagons down Independence Day parade routes, carried out infinite imaginary missions and voyages of childhood fantasy.

It is not unusual for a little red wagon to be handed down from one generation to the next, treasured like a family heirloom. The adventures are enjoyed by all, regardless of age.

HOW TO OBSERVE

As the weather gets warmer and spring officially begins, use the day to encourage kids to get outside, get active and go wherever their imaginations take them. Use #LittleRedWagonDay and tag @RadioFlyer to share on social media.

March 25 - National Tolkien Reading Day

Happy National Tolkien Reading Day! Celebrated around the world on March 25th, today is a favorite among fans of the renowned author.

J.R.R. Tolkien (Jan. 3, 1892 – Sept. 2, 1973) was a South African-born English writer, poet, philologist, and university professor.
He was best known as the author of the classic works.

His best known include the 1937 epic high fantasy children's literature fiction novel The Hobbit, the 1954 epic heroic high-fantasy chivalric romance adventure fiction novel The Lord of the Rings and the 1977 mythopoeic fantasy fiction novel The Silmarrillion.

This also includes the 1925 fantasy fiction children's literature novella Roverandom as well as the 1937 comic Medieval fantastic fantasy fiction children's literature novel Farmer Giles of Ham

However, Tolkien had published more than thirty books, several posthumously. Today, the author has sold more than 150 million copies of The Lord of the Rings trilogy...and that number still continues to grow!

Today day encourages readers of all ages to explore the writings of Tolkien and learn more about the author. With over thirty published works, he had a lot to say and not just about hobbits, though many are on medieval order.

HOW TO OBSERVE

HISTORY

In 2003, The Tolkien Society created this observance to encourage the readings of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Established half a century ago in the United Kingdom, this educational charity and literary society are devoted to the study and promotion of the life and works of this author and academic.

The society chose the date of March 25th because it matches the fall of Sauron in Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.
