Happy Birthday, Hiroshi Teshigahara! Born today in 1927, this Japanese artist and avant-garde filmmaker is best known for his directing the 1964 Japanese New Wave black and white drama/thriller film 'Suna no Onna' (literally 'Sand Woman') but best known as 'Woman in the Dunes' (or 'Woman of the Dunes').
He is also known for producing and directing the 1966 Japanese New Wave black and white drama/fantasy film 'Tanin no kao'('The Face of Another'). He has been called "one of the most acclaimed Japanese directors of all time". Teshigahaera had been active from 1953–1992.
