Happy Birthday, David Maysles! Born today in 1931, this American cinematographer and director is one half of the documentary filmmaking team (along with his older brother Albert)the Maysles Brothers, known for their work in the Direct Cinema style.
Their best-known films include the 1969 American black and white cinéma vérité/history film 'Salesman', the 1970 British-American musical documentary film 'Gimme Shelter' and the 1975 American drama/documentary film 'Grey Gardens'.
Maysles passed from a stroke in New York City, New York on January 3, 1987. He was 55. This was just seven days shy of his 56th birthday.
