Happy National Tolkien Reading Day! Celebrated around the world on March 25th, today is a favorite among fans of the renowned author.
J.R.R. Tolkien (Jan. 3, 1892 – Sept. 2, 1973) was a South African-born English writer, poet, philologist, and university professor.
He was best known as the author of the classic works.
His best known include the 1937 epic high fantasy children's literature fiction novel The Hobbit, the 1954 epic heroic high-fantasy chivalric romance adventure fiction novel The Lord of the Rings and the 1977 mythopoeic fantasy fiction novel The Silmarrillion.
This also includes the 1925 fantasy fiction children's literature novella Roverandom as well as the 1937 comic Medieval fantastic fantasy fiction children's literature novel Farmer Giles of Ham.
However, Tolkien had published more than thirty books, several posthumously. Today, the author has sold more than 150 million copies of The Lord of the Rings trilogy...and that number still continues to grow!
Today day encourages readers of all ages to explore the writings of Tolkien and learn more about the author. With over thirty published works, he had a lot to say and not just about hobbits, though many are on medieval order.

In 2003, The Tolkien Society created this observance to encourage the readings of J.R.R. Tolkien.
Established half a century ago in the United Kingdom, this educational charity and literary society are devoted to the study and promotion of the life and works of this author and academic.
The society chose the date of March 25th because it matches the fall of Sauron in Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.
