Happy Independence Day, Czech Republic! Following World War I, there was wide support for the territories of the Austrian-Hungarian empire to form their own governments. Czechoslovakia arose from this spirit of independence.
In 1918, the Czechoslovak National Council declared independence for a territory that included the countries we now know as the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
The Czech Republic still celebrates Independent Czechoslovak State Day today as the formation of their own, sovereign country.
