October 21 - National Back To The Future Day

Happy National Back To The Future Day! Today is celebrated on October 21 because that is the date Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) originally travels to the past and sets in motion his undoubtedly existential adventure.

With that said, feel free to throw on your Nikes, pop in a VHS and rev up your DeLorean!

This day is significant for millions of fans of this film trilogy of the same name.

First celebrated in on this day in 2015 (a significant year for serious fans), the original 'Back to the Future' is the 1985 American comedy fantasy/science-fiction film classic that grossed nearly $400 million worldwide!

At the end of the first film, the main characters, seventeen-year-old high school student Marty and the eccentric scientist Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown (Christopher Lloyd) use the plutonium-powered DeLorean to go to October 21, 2015.

The arrival of this day had been anticipated by many for years, and many celebrations across the country have taken place after it.

HOW TO OBSERVE

Here are some ideas to observe for this (then) one-time National Day:

• Take some time and watch the film trilogy. Part two takes place on October 21, 2015.

• Watch 'Back to the Future Part II' on the big screen. Many theaters will be playing the film, so check your local theaters for times and schedules.

• If not, you can also enjoy it with your family and friends at home.

• Listen to “The Power Of Love” by Huey Lewis and the News; the theme song for the film.

HISTORY

This one-time only observation has been declared due to overwhelming public interest in this day.

However, fans still continue to celebrate it as the future travels ever onward.
