June 17 - Bobby Farrelly


Happy 62nd Birthday, Bobby Farrelly! Born today in 1958 as Robert Leo Farrelly Jr., this American American screenwriter, producer and film director is one of the Farrelly brothers. 


This is alongside his older brother Peter, and are known directing and producing quirky, slightly offensive comedy films. Together, they are known as the Farrelly brothers. 


Farrelly was raised in Cumberland, Rhode Island, to Mariann, a nurse practitioner, and Dr. Robert Leo Farrelly. His grandparents were Irish immigrants. 


Farrelly is an alma mater of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he entered the school on a hockey scholarship. 


In 1992, the Farrelly brothers conceived and co-wrote the 50th episode of Seinfeld. This was The Virgin (S04E10). 


The cast assembled to read this episode's script on October 14, 1992, and it was filmed six days later, on October 20. The episode aired on November 11. 

 
Over 16 million people viewed this episode It gained an 11.6 Nielsen Rating and a 17 audience share, meaning that 11.6% of American households watched the episode, and 17% of all televisions in use at the time were tuned into it. 

 
In the mid-to-late 1990s, Bobby and Peter wrote and directed the 1994 American screwball comedy buddy road film 'Dumb and Dumber', the 1996 American sports comedy/buddy film 'Kingpin', and the 1998 American comedy/romance film 'There's Something About Mary'. 

 
In the early 2000s, they wrote and directed the 2000 American black comedy/drama film 'Me, Myself & Irene', the 2001 American American romantic comedy film 'Shallow Hal' and the 2003 American comedy film 'Stuck on You'. 

 
In the mid-2000s, Bobby and Peter directed the 2005 American sports/romance film 'Fever Pitch (released as 'The Perfect Catch' outside the United States and Canada) the 2007 American black comedy/romance film 'The Heartbreak Kid'. 


The latter was a remake of American comedian, film director, screenwriter and actress Elaine May's 1972 American dark romantic comedy film of the same name.

 
Among his credits, Bobby is best known for co-writing and co-directing 'There's Something About Mary'. 


It later became a major box office success, grossing over $369 million worldwide against its $23 million budget, becoming the fourth-highest-grossing film of the year. 

 
The film is placed 27th in the American Film Institute's 100 Years...100 Laughs: America's Funniest Movies, a list of the 100 funniest movies of the 20th century. 


In 2000, readers of Total Film magazine voted it the fourth-greatest comedy film of all time.  

 
Two years later, Bobby and Peter served as executive producers on the 2009 American documentary/sport film 'The Lost Son of Havana'. 

 
In the mid-2010s, Bobby and Peter directed the 2014 American comedy film 'Dumb and Dumber To', the sequel to their 1994 blockbuster hit. 


In the late-2010s, Bobby directed two episodes for Season 10 of the Canadian cult mockumentary television series Trailer Park Boys (2001–2009). The show saw its revival in 2014, and is still currently broadcast. 


According to his personal life, Farrelly has been married to his wife, American actress Nancy since 1990. she had had bit parts in 'Dumb and Dumber', 'Kingpin' and 'There's Something About Mary', credited as Boardroom Babe.  


Together, they have two daughters and a son, Jesse, together. Unfortunately he passed on February 8, 2012 after a lengthy illness. He was 20. This was just one month away from his birthday. 


Farrelly's youngest daughter is the non-binary American comedian, cinematographer, writer and actress A.B. Farrelly. 


Bobby has been active from 1992–present.
