Happy 52nd Birthday, Sebastian Schipper! Born today in 1968, this German actor and filmmaker studied acting at the Otto Falckenberg Schule in Munich from 1992 to 1995.
As an actor, he is best known for having a bit part (credited as Interrogation Room Soldier) in British film director, playwright and screenwriter Anthony Minghella's 1996 American epic romantic war/drama film 'The English Patient'.
Schipper is also best known for having a bit part as Mike in German film director, producer, screenwriter, and composer Tom Tykwer's 1998 German thriller/drama film 'Lola rennt' ('Run Lola Run').
As a filmmaker, Schipper is best known for co-writing, co-producing and directing the 2015 German thriller/crime film 'Victoria'.
The film follows the eponymous Spanish runaway party girl (Laia Costa) who has moved to Berlin. She has been living there for three months and works in a café for a meager wage.
She is later asked by four friendly men, "Sonne" (Frederick Lau), "Boxer" (Franz Rogowski), "Fuß" (Max Mauff) and "Blinker" (Burak Yiğit) to join them as they hit the town. However, their wild night of partying goes awry when it turns into a bank robbery.
His fourth film as director, Schipper had Norwegian cinematographer Sturla Brandth Grøvlen shoot 'Victoria' in one continuous take. It is one of the few features filmed in a single long take.
The film played at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival in February 2015.
Four months later, it won in six categories at the 64th German Film Awards in June of that same year. This included Best Film and Best Direction.
