Happy 54th Birthday, David Mackenzie! Born today in 1966, this Scottish film director is also the co-founder of the Glasgow-based production company Sigma Films.
In the 2000s, Mackenzie is known for directing the 2003 British erotic drama/thriller film 'Young Adam' the 2007 British drama/thriller film 'Hallam Foe' ('Mister Foe').
In the 2010s, Mackenzie is known for directing the 2011 British/Swedish/Danish/Irish science fiction romance/drama film 'Perfect Sense' (formerly known as 'The Last Word') and the 2013 British prison crime/drama film 'Starred Up'.
Among his credits, Mackenzie is best known for directing the 2016 American neo-western heist thriller film 'Hell or High Water'.
The film tells of Toby Howard (Chris Pine), a divorced father who's trying to make a better life for his son. His brother Tanner (Ben Foster) is an ex-convict with a short temper and a loose trigger finger. Together, they plan a series of heists against the bank that's about to foreclose on their family ranch.
Standing in their way is Marcus Hamilton (Jeff Bridges), a Texas Ranger who's only weeks away from retirement. As the siblings plot their final robbery, they must also prepare for a showdown with a crafty lawman who's not yet ready to ride off into the sunset.
Mackenzie has made ten feature films. He and his films have been described as not fitting neatly into any particular genre or type.
