Happy 98th Birthday, Carl Reiner! Born today in 1922, this American publisher, comedian, actor, screenwriter and director's career spans seven decades.
During the early years of television comedy from 1950 to 1957, he co-wrote and acted on NBC's live, hour-long American black and white sketch-comedy television program Caesar's Hour (1954–1957) and NBC's live ninety-minute American black and white variety show Your Show of Shows, starring Sid Caesar (1950–1954).
Afterwards, Reiner was responsible for co-writng, co-starring (as Alan Brady) and creating the CBS American black and white television sitcom The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961–1966).
On the NBC American sitcom television series Mad About You (1992–1999), Reiner reprised his role as Brady in the 1995 episode "The Alan Brady Show" (S03E16).
The The Dick Van Dyke Show won fifteen Emmy Awards. In 1997, the episodes "It May Look Like a Walnut" (S02E20) and "Coast-to-Coast Big Mouth" (S05E01) were ranked at 8 and 15 respectively on TV Guide's 100 Greatest Episodes of All Time. "The Alan Brady Show" was ranked at 84.
On the 2009 list for TV Guide's 100 Greatest Episodes of All Time, "It May Look Like a Walnut" was ranked at number 13.
In 2013, The Dick Van Dyke Show was ranked at 20 on the 60 Best Series list,
Among his film credits, Reiner is best known for directing the 1979 American comedy/musical film 'The Jerk'.
