Happy 36th Birthday, Olivia Wilde! Born today in 1984 as Olivia Jane Cockburn, this American actress and filmmaker has shined as both an actor and director in her storied career.
Although born in New York City, New York, Wilde was raised in both the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. while spending summers in Ardmore in County Waterford, Ireland.
Her parents were respected journalists, so Wilde, who was born with the surname Cockburn, grew up in a household that was always booming with the intellectual banter of politicians, writers, and thinkers.
Wilde's mother, Leslie Cockburn, is an American producer and journalist for 60 Minutes. Her father, American journalist Andrew Cockburn, is the son of British journalist Francis Claud Cockburn.

Ruspoli was a member of the aristocratic Ruspoli family that owns a famed palazzo in Italy.
Both were married in Washington, Virginia on a school bus with only a pair of witnesses. Upon her marriage to Ruspoli, Wilde became a princess.
However, she later said that the wedding occurred in an abandoned school bus because it was the only place where they could be completely alone, as the marriage was a secret at the time.

They later became engaged in January 2013. The couple have two children together: a son and a daughter.

Two years later, Wilde co-produced the thirteen-minute 2015 Liberian documentary/short film 'Body Team 12' for HBO.
The short tells of how, during an Ebola outbreak in Monrovia, Liberia, Garmai Sumo works on a team that removes bodies to prevent the spread of the virus. Sumo was a female worker who served as a nurse during the epidemic.
The film went on to win Best Documentary Short at the 13th Tribeca Film Festival in April 2015.
One year later, was nominated and Oscar for Best Documentary (Short Subject). However, it didn't win. This occurred at the 88th Academy Awards in late February 2016.
Later that same year Wilde starred as Devon Finestra for HBO's American period drama television series Vinyl. The show ran for one season from mid-February to mid-April.
The series had been created by Mick Jagger, Martin Scorsese, American non-fiction writer. Rich Cohen and American writer and producer of television and film Terence Winter.
In 2017, Wilde made her Broadway debut, playing the role of Julia in the 2013 play 1984. The production was a stage adaptation based on George Orwell's 1949 novel of the same name.
Two years later, Wilde directed her debut feature. It also the film of which she is best known. This was the 2019 American coming-of-age buddy comedy/teen film 'Booksmart'.

On a budget of $6 million, 'Booksmart' grossed $24.9 million at the box office.
On March 10, 2019, 'Booksmart' had its world premiere at the 32nd SXSW Film Festival.
The film was later theatrically released by United Artists Releasing in the United States on May 24, 2019 to acclaim from critics.
For her performance, Feldstein was nominated for Best Actress – Comedy or Musical. However, she didn't win. This occurred at the 77th Golden Globe Awards in early January 2020.
One month later, 'Booksmart' was nominated a BAFTA Award for Best Original Screenplay. However, it didn't win. This occurred at the 73rd British Academy Film Awards on February 2, 2020.
Six days later, Wilde won the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature. This occurred at the 35th Independent Spirit Awards on February 8, 2020.
