Happy Birthday, King Vidor! Born today in 1894 as King Wallis Vidor, this American screenwriter, film producer and film director's career spanned nearly seven decades.
In early April 1979, Vidor was awarded an Honorary Academy Award. The accolade was presented by Audrey Hepburn at the 51st Academy Awards. This was for Vidor's "incomparable achievements as a cinematic creator and innovator."
Vidor is best known for directing the 1925 American silent black and white war drama/independent film 'The Big Parade', the 1928 American silent black and white drama film 'The Crowd' and the 1937 American black and white drama film 'Stella Dallas'.
Vidor had been active from 1913–1980.
