Happy Birthday, Carl Theodor Dreyer! Born today in 1889, commonly known as Carl Th. Dreyer, this Danish film director is regarded by many critics and filmmakers as one of the greatest directors in cinema.
His best known films include the 1928 French silent black and white historical drama film 'La Passion de Jeanne d'Arc' ('The Passion of Joan of Arc'), the 1932 German black and white fantasy/horror film 'Vampyr – Der Traum des Allan Gray' (lit. 'Vampyr: The Dream of Allan Gray' or simply 'Vampyr'), the 1955 Danish black and white drama/history film 'Ordet' ('The Word'), and the 1964 Danish black and white drama film 'Gertrud'.
Dreyer had been active from 1919–1968.
