Happy 70th Birthday, Tsui Hark! Born today in 1950 as Tsui Man-kong, this Vietnamese-born Hong Kong presenter, screenwriter, producer, film director and actor has directed several influential Hong Kong films.
These include as the 1983 Hong Kong supernatural fantasy/action film 'Xīn Shǔ Shān Jiàn Xiá' ('Zu Warriors from the Magic Mountain'),' the Once Upon a Time in China film series and the 1995 Hong Kong martial arts drama/action film 'Dāo' ('The Blade').
However, Hark is best known for producing and directing the 1986 Hong Kong drama/comedy-drama film 'Dāo Mǎ Dàn',('Peking Opera Blues') and for co-writing, producing and directing the 1991 Hong Kong–Chinese martial arts history/drama film 'Wong Fei-hung' ('Once Upon a Time in China').
Hark is also best known for producing Hong Kong action choreographer, actor, film director and producer Ching Siu-tung's 1987 Hong Kong romantic comedy horror fantasy/thriller film 'Ch'ien-nü Yu-hun' (literally: 'The Ethereal Spirit of a Beauty', also known as 'A Chinese Ghost Story').
Hark has been active from 1979–present.
